How to Test a TradingView Indicator Before Relying on It

Evaluation guide

Before paying for or relying on an indicator, test whether you understand its purpose and whether its behavior matches your intended market, timeframe and workflow.

Seven-step test

  1. Read the description and methodology.
  2. Identify every input you plan to change.
  3. Observe signals or plots in real time, not only historically.
  4. Check whether past output changes.
  5. Test several market conditions, not one favorable period.
  6. Use paper trading or simulation where appropriate.
  7. Record what the tool adds that your existing chart does not.

For paid scripts

TradingView recommends researching the author, intended markets, risk handling, backtesting, support and trial availability before using invite-only scripts. A price tag is not evidence of superior performance.
